Study in Japan
Japan offers university and graduate-study options in Japanese and selected programmes in English. The government-approved Study in Japan website, operated by JASSO, lets applicants explore schools by subject, location and teaching language.
Choosing a programme
Check the language used for teaching and assessment, the qualification requirements and any entrance examinations. For research study, examine the proposed topic and the department's supervision process before preparing a detailed proposal.
Scholarship opportunities
The official portal provides information on Japanese Government MEXT scholarships, JASSO support and other scholarships or tuition reductions. Each scheme has its own eligibility, coverage, selection route and timing. Admission to a university should not be treated as a scholarship award.
Documents and budgeting
Prepare academic records, language evidence and other materials required by the institution or scholarship. Compare tuition, accommodation and living expenses for the actual study location. Allow time for translations and document certification where requested.
Your next steps
Use official programme searches to make a realistic shortlist, confirm the current application route and plan accommodation and travel after reading your offer conditions. Learning Japanese can also help with daily life beyond an English-taught classroom.
