University of Pavia Admission 2027–28: Requirements, Fees and Scholarships
Plan your University of Pavia application for 2027–28: course choices, eligibility, English requirements, fees, EDiSU scholarships, housing and visa steps.
By Ali Zubair•October 18, 2026

Planning to apply to the University of Pavia for 2027–28? Start with the course requirements, then build your budget and application calendar around them. An English-taught degree, a low tuition bracket and a scholarship are three separate things. Qualifying for one does not automatically give you the others.
Pavia offers a university-town setting near Milan, with options across engineering, business, sciences, humanities and medicine. The right choice depends on what you have already studied, the language you can prove and the costs you can cover before any financial support arrives.
Are University of Pavia applications open for 2027–28?
As of October 2026, Pavia’s main bachelor’s and master’s application guides display the 2026–27 degree-admission calendar. Those dates should not be treated as confirmed deadlines for 2027–28. Check your course on apply.unipv.eu for the new call, applicant categories and available places.
The Foundation Year has its own 2027–28 announcement. Its first application window ran from 1 to 15 October 2026 and has already closed. Foundation dates do not apply to bachelor’s or master’s admission.
Keep separate reminders for the degree application, any entrance test, EDiSU benefits, Universitaly pre-enrolment and final university enrolment. Waiting for one result can otherwise leave too little time for another deadline.
Choose a course that matches your background
Examples of Pavia’s current English-taught options include Artificial Intelligence at undergraduate level, the Harvey Medicine and Surgery single-cycle degree, and master’s programmes such as Computer Engineering, International Business and Entrepreneurship, and World Politics and International Relations. Confirm the 2027–28 offering and admission route before applying.
A single-cycle degree combines study into one longer programme; it is different from a two-year master’s entered after a bachelor’s. Medicine applicants should follow the Harvey course call and the rules applicable to their intake rather than a general application calendar.
For a master’s, read the module list alongside the entry requirements. If you want to move from business into computing, for example, first check whether your transcript contains the required mathematical and technical preparation. A persuasive motivation letter cannot replace missing academic prerequisites.
Shortlist courses using four questions: Am I academically eligible? Can I meet the language rules? Does the curriculum serve my career plans? Can I finance the move if a scholarship is delayed or unavailable?
Admission requirements for international students
Bachelor’s and single-cycle applicants generally need a secondary-school qualification obtained after at least 12 years of education. Pavia also specifies qualification conditions, including any university-entrance eligibility examination required in the country’s education system. The Admission Office evaluates the actual documents; a school certificate’s name alone does not establish eligibility.
Master’s applicants need a bachelor’s qualification involving at least three years of higher education, with suitability assessed by the university and the chosen programme. Check subject prerequisites, academic-record requirements and any interview or assessment in the course instructions. There is no sensible university-wide CGPA promise that covers every programme and grading system.
Your applicant category also matters. A non-EU citizen living outside Italy may face a different procedure and seat allocation from an EU or equivalent applicant. Read Pavia’s category definitions carefully, especially if you have dual citizenship or live in Italy under a residence permit.
English requirements, IELTS and medium of instruction
Pavia does not publish one IELTS score or one automatic English-language exemption for every course. Some programmes require an accepted certificate. Previous education entirely in English can lead to an exemption in some cases, but the university’s guidance explicitly says this is not universal.
Before paying for a test or relying on a medium-of-instruction letter, check the programme’s accepted evidence, required level, component scores and document validity. If the wording is unclear, send the course office your qualification details and ask a specific question about the evidence they accept.
For Italian-taught degrees, check the Italian-language requirement and applicable test exemptions too. An English certificate does not demonstrate readiness for classes taught in Italian.
How to apply to the University of Pavia
First establish whether your course has non-restricted or restricted access. Non-restricted access does not mean automatic admission: academic assessment and applicable international-seat limits still matter. Pavia says non-restricted master’s programmes usually involve an interview. Restricted courses follow their own selection rules and calls.
For programmes using apply.unipv.eu, the practical sequence is:
1. Open the course page and read the correct intake’s requirements.
2. Register with an email address you check regularly.
3. Complete the application and upload the requested qualification and identity documents.
4. Pay the application charge shown for that call. The currently published general instructions list €35; confirm the 2027–28 amount before payment.
5. Submit the application before the deadline and retain confirmation.
6. Monitor the portal and email for assessments, missing documents and decisions.
Saving is not submitting. Pavia specifically instructs applicants who reopen an application and add documents to submit it again before the deadline. A complete-looking draft is still a draft.
For an interview, prepare to explain relevant modules, your final project and why the course suits your next step. Keep your transcript and course descriptions nearby so you can discuss your preparation accurately.
Documents to prepare before the call
Build a clear folder rather than collecting files on the final evening. Your course may request:
- A valid passport or other accepted identity document.
- Secondary-school certificates for undergraduate entry, or a bachelor’s qualification for master’s entry.
- Academic transcripts and the grading scale.
- Language evidence accepted by that programme.
- Course descriptions, a CV, motivation statement or references where requested.
- Any country-specific university-entrance evidence.
Use readable scans, consistent names and sensible filenames. Check that dates and personal details agree across documents. Keep a copy of everything submitted.
Application documents and final enrolment documents are not always identical. Pavia’s post-admission guidance includes qualification-authenticity and recognition requirements that depend on where the award was obtained. Ask which legalisation, apostille, CIMEA or other recognition evidence applies before ordering paid services.
University of Pavia tuition fees: what should you budget?
Pavia’s published non-EU flat-rate system depends on citizenship and study area. The 2026–27 schedule ranges from €390 to €4,550 annually. These are reference figures for that academic year, not confirmed 2027–28 prices.
For students comparing costs from Pakistan, the published 2026–27 table places Pakistan in Bracket 1 and lists €390 for both humanities and science areas. Check the new schedule and your personal category before treating that as your future bill.
There is also an assessment based on the family’s financial circumstances. Crucially, Pavia says this route is mandatory for students applying for EDiSU benefits. Choosing a flat rate without income documents does not remove the documentation requirements for a scholarship. Dual EU/non-EU citizenship can also affect the applicable route.
Keep application charges, qualification checks, translations, travel and living costs separate from annual university fees. Read the instalment schedule rather than assuming the entire amount is due at once.
EDiSU Pavia scholarships and college accommodation
EDiSU Pavia is the local body to follow for the ordinary scholarship and its college-accommodation competition. Admission to the university does not automatically submit an EDiSU application.
Under the current system, students request the benefits they want through one online EDiSU application. If requesting both a scholarship and a college place, the earlier relevant deadline applies. Check the 2027–28 calls rather than reusing last year’s dates.
Scholarship assessment involves financial and academic conditions. Applicants with family income and assets abroad should expect documentation covering household composition, income, property and financial assets, with the required formalities. The new call determines the reference years and submission rules. Do not assume uploaded scans alone complete every requirement.
Read the difference between being eligible and receiving an award. Funding, rankings and conditions matter, and first-year recipients must meet academic-progress requirements to retain support. Build your arrival budget without assuming scholarship money will be available immediately.
College places are allocated through a separate competition within the benefits process. Some colleges, including Cairoli and Volta, currently require additional questionnaires and evaluation. Check the exact accommodation instructions alongside the scholarship call.
Housing and a realistic arrival budget
Compare an EDiSU college, another student residence and a private room. For each option, ask what is included: utilities, internet, meals, cleaning, contract charges and any summer closure. Look at the journey to your teaching location, not just the address advertised as central.
Create two budgets. The monthly one covers rent, utilities, food, transport, phone and personal spending. The arrival budget covers travel, temporary accommodation, a rental deposit, initial rent, documents and university payments due before financial support is confirmed.
Use actual room quotations when deciding affordability. A single average monthly figure can hide a large difference between a shared room and a private studio. Keep written housing terms and verify the accommodation provider before transferring a deposit.
After an offer: Universitaly, visa and final enrolment
For a non-EU applicant living abroad who requires a study visa, Pavia’s guidance directs students to Universitaly for pre-enrolment, followed by the competent Italian embassy or consulate’s visa process. The university application and Universitaly serve different purposes.
Follow the admission letter’s conditions, the university’s pre-enrolment deadline and the consulate’s current document checklist. University acceptance does not guarantee a visa or a consular appointment. Leave time for document corrections rather than planning around the last possible day.
Final enrolment also requires completing Pavia’s student-portal procedure, required payments and document checks. Keep the admission offer, payment receipts and qualification records accessible throughout the process.
Frequently asked questions
Can I apply without IELTS?
Possibly, if your chosen programme accepts another certificate or grants an exemption. A medium-of-instruction letter is not a university-wide guarantee. Get the course’s answer before relying on it.
Does non-restricted access mean everyone gets a place?
No. Applicants still need the right qualifications and any required assessment. Non-EU applicants abroad should also check the places available for their category.
Can I get a fully funded scholarship automatically?
No. EDiSU has a separate application and eligibility assessment. Read what an award actually includes, its conditions and the payment arrangements before making financial commitments.
What if I have fewer than 12 years of schooling?
Ask Pavia to assess your background and whether a preparatory route is appropriate. Its announced 2027–28 Foundation Year runs in person from October 2027 to June 2028, costs €5,000 and requires visa-seeking students to reach B1 Italian by 30 June 2027. Check the Foundation office for later application windows and your suitability.
What should I do while waiting for the 2027–28 degree call?
Choose a realistic course shortlist, obtain transcripts and course descriptions, resolve language-evidence questions and prepare your financial documents. Keep a simple tracker with each deadline, required action and submission confirmation.
