Open Doors Russian Scholarship 2027: Eligibility, Funding and How to Apply
Apply for the Open Doors Russian Scholarship by 1 November 2026. Check eligibility, tuition funding, grant conditions and application steps.

Planning to study in Russia in 2027? The current Open Doors competition is accepting applications until 1 November 2026. The organisers describe this as the 2026/27 competition, so apply through the current call rather than waiting for a separate announcement carrying a 2027 label.
For Pakistani students, the first decision is whether your age, academic background and intended subject fit an available track. The second is financial: tuition funding and a separate government grant have different conditions. Understand both before you commit to a university.
This guide was checked against official Open Doors information on 20 October 2026.
Open Doors at a glance
Destination: Russia
Application deadline: 1 November 2026
Degree routes: bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral study
Separate research route: postdoctoral positions
Official application website: https://od.globaluni.ru/
The deadline is for registration and portfolio submission. Do not mistake the later evaluation period for extra time to apply. Aim to finish early enough to resolve missing uploads or account problems.
Who can apply?
The rules allow foreign nationals and stateless applicants who meet their track’s requirements. Pakistani citizenship therefore does not itself exclude you.
Age is assessed at the registration opening date, 20 August 2026:
• Bachelor’s: ages 16–23, with an appropriate school qualification completed or due during the competition’s academic year; applicants must not already hold a bachelor’s, specialist or master’s degree.
• Master’s: ages 20–33, with at least bachelor-level education completed or due that academic year; no existing specialist or master’s qualification.
• Doctoral: ages 22–35, with a specialist or master’s qualification completed or due that academic year; applicants must not have completed a PhD.
• Postdoctoral: ages 24–39, with the required doctoral qualification already held at registration opening. This is a research employment route, not another degree.

What does the scholarship cover?
The standard scholarship covers tuition and includes a monthly stipend. The stipend amount depends on the university. The official FAQ says students normally pay for travel, housing, food, insurance, communications and other personal spending.
There is also separate Russian government grant support. The official information sheet explains that eligible winners choosing Russian-taught degree programmes may qualify for travel support, medical insurance, accommodation reimbursement and an allowance linked to academic performance. This involves additional eligibility and document checks; it is not automatic for every applicant or every programme.
Ask the university for written confirmation of the support attached to your offer. Build your budget around confirmed funding, rather than assuming that a tuition award pays every bill.

Prepare your documents and portfolio
The first-stage essentials are your passport, evidence of your education and a motivation letter. If your final degree is not available, the FAQ permits suitable official academic records at this stage; degree confirmation is needed later for admission.
The portfolio also involves an entry test. Read the instructions inside your account before submitting.
As a practical preparation step, put your documents into clearly named folders. Check that scans are readable, names are consistent and every claimed achievement has supporting evidence. Keep a separate copy of what you submit.
For your motivation letter, explain the problem or subject you want to study, the preparation you already have and the direction you want to take next. A strong paragraph about one relevant project is more useful than a page of general praise for studying abroad. Research applicants should be ready to discuss a specific research question, methods and how their previous work prepares them for it.
How to apply step by step
1. Open the official application website: https://od.globaluni.ru/
Create your applicant account and read the current rules. Participation in the competition is free.
2. Choose your track and subject carefully.
Compare the subject content with your transcript, projects and intended degree. Popular areas in the current competition include computing, business and engineering, but popularity should not decide your choice. Start with the field you can support through your own academic record.
3. Complete the required account sections.
Follow the portfolio instructions, prepare your motivation letter, upload evidence and complete the entry test. Check the final submission status rather than assuming that uploading files finishes the application.
4. Prepare for the next stage while you wait.
Bachelor’s and master’s applicants progress from portfolio assessment to subject tasks. Doctoral applicants also face interviews; the postdoctoral route includes a research video and interviews. Use the official subject materials and sample tasks to identify topics you need to revise.
5. Follow the instructions after selection.
An account registration is not an admission offer. Successful applicants still need to complete the quota and university documentation. Read each message in your account and keep a simple deadline checklist.
Dates to put in your calendar
• 1 November 2026: application registration closes.
• 13 November–21 December 2026: second-stage period.
• 22 December 2026–26 February 2027: third-stage interview period for the relevant research tracks.
Your personal account contains the applicable appointments and instructions. Set reminders for the dates assigned to you, and convert any published time into Pakistan time before arranging your day. Leave room for equipment checks and document corrections rather than working to the last minute.
Questions to ask before choosing a university
Keep a short comparison sheet for each programme you are considering:
• Does the curriculum match the degree and career you want?
• What is the teaching language, and what evidence will the university require?
• What funding amount is confirmed, and when does payment begin?
• What does university accommodation cost, and is a place available?
• For research study, whose work matches your proposed topic?
A scholarship competition and university admission can assess language differently. Do not assume a statement about competition participation settles every university requirement. Ask the admitting institution directly.
Before paying for travel or other major arrangements, make sure you understand the conditions of your university offer and the next steps it specifies.
Application checklist
Before submitting, check that you have selected the appropriate track, reviewed the current eligibility rules, completed every required portfolio section, checked your passport details and saved your submission record. Then prepare a realistic budget and a plan for the next assessment stage.
If you only have a few days available, prioritise the required documents and a clear, specific motivation letter. Extra certificates are useful only when they help demonstrate your preparation for the subject.
