Learn about CSC Scholarship benefits, eligibility, required documents and application steps, with guidance for Pakistani students planning to study in China.

Studying abroad becomes more affordable when you find the right scholarship. If you are considering China, the Chinese Government Scholarship, commonly called the CSC Scholarship, is an opportunity to explore.
It supports international students pursuing higher education in China, with opportunities for bachelor’s, master’s and PhD studies depending on the scholarship programme. Pakistani applicants can also access the HEC nomination route. HEC scholarship overview
This guide explains the funding, eligibility, documents and application process, including requirements Pakistani students should check.
Information reviewed on 17 September 2026. Examples refer to published 2026–27 guidance; follow the official announcement for your intended intake.
What does the CSC Scholarship cover?
A full CSC award typically includes tuition, university accommodation or an accommodation subsidy, comprehensive medical insurance and a monthly living allowance.
The monthly stipend amounts listed in Xiamen University’s 2026 CSC guide are:
Study level Monthly stipend
Bachelor’s CNY 2,500
Master’s CNY 3,000
PhD CNY 3,500
Always read the coverage section of your chosen scholarship announcement. Other scholarships offered by Chinese universities may provide different benefits. Official scholarship coverage
Plan separately for application charges, tests, document preparation, travel and initial expenses unless your award explicitly covers them.
Who can apply?
The general CSC degree requirements include being a non-Chinese citizen, meeting the health requirements and holding the appropriate academic qualification.
Degree you want to pursue Usual qualification Standard age limit
Bachelor’s High school completion or equivalent Under 25
Master’s Bachelor’s degree Under 35
PhD Master’s degree Under 40
Universities and nominating agencies may set additional conditions. Check the age reference date, academic requirements and language rules for your specific application. CSC eligibility guidelines
CSC Type A and Type B: understanding your application route
For Type A, follow the nomination arrangements specified for your country and programme. Under Pakistan’s HEC-administered scheme, applicants must submit applications through both the HEC and CSC portals. Completing only one application does not satisfy the requirements. HEC application instructions
For Type B, follow the participating university’s scholarship instructions. A separate university application may be required alongside the CSC application. Xiamen University, for example, requires submissions through both systems. University application example
Use the programme category and agency number stated in the official notice for your chosen route.
Can you apply without IELTS?
Some universities accept alternative evidence of English proficiency for certain English-taught programmes.
For example, Xiamen University’s 2026 master’s admission guide accepts an English-medium instruction certificate among its alternatives to IELTS or TOEFL. However, this does not establish a universal IELTS exemption for CSC applicants.
Confirm the accepted evidence with your chosen university. Chinese-taught programmes have their own Chinese-language requirements. Official language requirements
Documents to prepare
Use this as a starting checklist:
Passport identification page.
Academic certificates and transcripts.
Required notarisation and translations.
Study plan or research proposal.
Language proficiency certificates.
Two academic recommendation letters for postgraduate applications.
Foreigner Physical Examination Form.
Non-criminal record certificate.
University pre-admission documentation.
CSCA score report for bachelor’s applications.
The CSC guidelines attached to HEC’s 2026–27 notice require pre-admission documentation. Check the required format and submission stage for your programme. Medical and police documents also have validity requirements, so arrange them at the appropriate time. Official document requirements
How to apply, step by step
1. Choose suitable programmes. Compare the subject, teaching language, entry requirements and scholarship availability. For research degrees, identify supervisors whose work connects with your interests.
2. Read the current scholarship announcement. Record the deadline, required documents, programme category, agency number and every application portal you must complete.
3. Prepare a focused study plan. Explain your academic background, what you want to study, why the programme suits you and how it supports your goals. Research applicants should describe a clear research question and a realistic approach.
4. Complete the required applications. Follow the instructions for the CSC application system (https://studyinchina.csc.edu.cn/) and any university or nominating-agency portal. Pakistani applicants using HEC’s route should also follow the HEC application process (https://www.hec.gov.pk/english/scholarshipsgrants/lao/CGSP/Pages/How-to-Apply.aspx).
5. Check before submitting. Review your personal details, programme selection and uploaded documents. Save your application forms and confirmation records.
Monitor your email and application accounts. Watch for interview invitations, requests for additional documents and official decisions.
Additional requirements for Pakistani applicants
HEC’s published 2026–27 eligibility rules require Pakistani/AJ&K nationality, exclude dual nationals and require completed qualifications by the application closing date.
They also specify:
USAT for undergraduate applicants.
HAT for master’s and PhD applicants.
A minimum relevant test score of 50 out of 100.
The China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA) requirement for undergraduate applicants.
Check the announcement for your intended intake for accepted test dates and any revised conditions. HEC eligibility criteria
When is the application deadline?
There is no single deadline covering every CSC university and application route.
HEC’s published deadline for the 2026–27 scheme was 5 January 2026, which has already passed. If you are preparing for 2027–28, follow that intake’s official announcement when available. Do not use a previous year’s deadline as your application deadline. HEC intake notice
Begin with a carefully researched shortlist and a document checklist. Give yourself time to write a thoughtful study plan, request recommendation letters and confirm programme requirements.
